A list of the drugs I have tried listed in order of my preference for doing them. As a capitalist I tend to like uppers for productivity, alcohol for negotiations and team building, and psychedelics for thinking of innovative new business strategies (the blue ocean strategy was originally conceived of by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne while on a ketamine trip).
Coffee – A+, the best, the king of drugs! I love coffee. I have it every day, sometimes multiple times a day.
Alcohol – I appreciate alcohol and I drink it more than I should. Almost daily. So many wonderful varieties.
Ritalin/Adderall – This is a drug I’m a little afraid of because I like it SO MUCH. This is a drug that seems designed for being on the computer. I am wary of how much I like it. (I know they are different, but they feel the same to me.)
Mushrooms – I used to prefer LSD to mushrooms because the first few times I tried mushrooms “nothing happened” and then once I took mushrooms and ended up wrestling a man in a ceremonial yurt while on a retreat in the woods. But more recently I’ve had some really great low dose experiences.
Marijuana – I like that marijuana exists and is on the path to full legalization, but I try it less than once a month. I really like it when I’m playing video games or by myself, but it feels like it fogs my brain and that isn’t usually what I’m looking for.
Modafinil – I bought of bunch of this from the internet once and it was fine, but I didn’t find the effect strong enough. I like to know when I’m on drugs.
LSD – I had fun doing this a few times after I got out of the Army. I remember some pretty great trips! But I don’t have a strong desire to do it again, mostly because of worries of how it’s made or what else is in it.
Ecstasy/MDMA – I’ve had good and bad experiences with ecstasy based on where I was and who I was with. The first time I took it was at a rave in San Francisco in 1998 and that was probably the best experience and every time after that has been less fun.
Poppy Infused Whiskey – This is a hard experience to rate because it was at a wedding and I was drinking a lot and probably had some weed as well. I had fun, but I can’t say exactly what the effect was.
Salvia – Only tried this once, and it’s a very short trip but I still remember it pretty vividly so many years later.
Ephedrine/Yellow Jackets – Also known as “trucker speed” these were pills you could get at a convenience store that were 25 mg of ephedrine and 200 mg of caffeine. What I remember most is how emotionally terrible I felt afterward.
Cocaine – I do not like cocaine. It feels gross and the effects are very short. I think it is a dumb drug.
Whippits/Nitrous Oxide – Bottom of the pile, but I have tried this. Like cocaine the effect is very short lived.
